And you might add that the another “downside” of Akismet (and the reason I went looking for alternatives that led me to your blog in the first place) is that it REQUIRES YOU TO HAVE A LOGIN TO A WORDPRESS.COM SITE or I’ve heard that now they are asking for API KEY. In either case, Akismet requires dependencies and more credentials and “codes”/keys to have to try to remember. And let’s hope you can log-in to your wordpress.com account because there is no support on weekends!

Maybe I’m ranting a little. But, as professionals who deal with code I think we can both agree that less dependencies is better.
